And how will we begin to look beyond false either/or choices to make intelligent investments in facilities that stand the test of time?
On February 1, 2010 Farrow Partnership Architects hosted a facilitated conversation with Alan Dilani, founder and general director of the International Academy for Design and Health, based in Stockholm. Alan has recently been developing Psychosocially Supportive Design Programs for medical and design institutions worldwide. The event attracted a diverse group of health care architects, planners, engineers, academics, media and government representatives, programmers and students.
During his visit to Toronto, Alan Dilani presented to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care regarding the global shift away from expensive sick care to prosperous health care. Cliff Harvey from the Ministry said that Dilani's message represents a "real turning point for us."
Another participant in the conversation, Richard Sommer, is Dean of the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto, where he also serves as Professor of Architecture and Urbanism. A health care design studies program is currently being created at the doctorate level by the U of T because health care is considered central to a healthy and prosperous society.
Other guests included Eb and Jane Zeidler, Cliff Harvey - Capital Planning and Strategies Branch at MOHLTC, Luigi Ferrara - Director, School of Design at George Brown College, and Ian Chodikoff - Editor of Canadian Architect.
